First and foremost I suffered for 30 years with uncontrolled complex Crohn's disease until I was forced to have a permanent stoma.
Before surgery, what kept me going was the hope that the next new drug would be the miracle I had been waiting for, but it never was. Year after year I went through pain and embarrassment, until finally I had no choice but to have the dreaded bag. I thought my life would be over having a stoma, instead my life began again. These days nothing stops me, both physically and mentally. After embracing my new life I was shocked at how many people just could not accept their stomas and so re-trained in NLP so I could help others become the best version of themselves. This gave me the knowledge to be able to guide other people into not only accepting their stomas but uncover a whole new life.
I also now run a free independent Stoma Support Group in Devon .
There is no such thing as can't. We can all do anything we wish to do, we just need to learn the appropriate skills to be able to achieve it.
The only thing that can stop you is YOU.
I am a qualified NLP coach which means I shake up the way people see the world and themselves, by the use of a series of techniques and language.
After my surgery I changed from a shy wallflower to someone who feels right at home public speaking. I have spoken in front of large groups of medical, hospital and pharmaceutical personal. I am always happy to consider motivational talks. Please just contact me.
I was asked to start a free support group in East Devon by the stoma nurses. We meet once a month and discuss all aspects of living with a stoma. One thing I do not encourage is members feeling sorry for each other. I use NLP to demonstrate to the group how they can alter their way of thinking and keep positive. This has lead to the group undertaking a Jurassic coast challenge in September 2024 to raise money for the stoma department in Exeter hospital and also so they can show the world how far they have come.
The walk will take place on 7th September 2024 along the South West Coastal Path starting in Seaton (East Devon) and ending at the RNLI boat station in Exmouth (Devon). 20 miles in total.
My Stoma support group wish to show the world that having a stoma doesn't stop you doing anything and also to raise money for the Stoma department of RD&E.
Anyone of any age who either has a stoma or family or friend of someone living with a stoma and would like to raise some money for this great department.
Fitness training will begin 16 weeks before the Event Day and all training schedules will be emailed out to you.
People living with stomas, their family and friends but also the stoma nurses from RD&E Exeter hospital and some of the colorectal surgeons . We will also be joined by The Royal Marines .
